How to choose an aesthetic medicine clinic: what to ask before a treatment

Choosing a clinic is an important decision, because aesthetic treatments concern your skin and health. Below you will find a few things worth checking before you book a visit.

Start with a consultation

A good clinic does not start with a treatment, but with a conversation. The specialist should ask about your illnesses, the medication you take, allergies and previous treatments, examine the skin and ask what you want to improve. If a treatment is not right for you, they should tell you so plainly instead of persuading you to have another.

Ask who will perform the treatment

It is worth knowing exactly who will perform your treatment and how long they have been doing this particular procedure. Ask them to tell you step by step what the visit will look like. A good specialist is happy to explain and has no problem answering questions.

Check the equipment and preparations

Ask what device the treatment will be performed on and whether the preparations are delivered in original packaging. A clinic that uses proven equipment is usually happy to give the brand and model. The name of the device will also let you read more about it and compare opinions.

Pay attention to hygiene

The cleanliness of the clinic and the way the treatment is prepared say a lot. Tips, needles and other single-use items should be in sterile packaging opened in front of you, and the person performing the treatment should work in gloves. You will also notice whether the surfaces are clean and the equipment well kept.

Beware of guarantees and pressure

No treatment gives a hundred percent guarantee of the effect, because each of our skins reacts differently. Promises of results after one treatment, pressure to decide quickly and sales meant to push you to buy without a consultation are suspicious. A reliable clinic tells you how many treatments are usually needed, when the effects are visible and how long they last.

Transparent prices

The price list should be clear and available. Ask what the price depends on (body area, treatment variant), what is included in it and whether the consultation is paid.

Care after the treatment

After the treatment you should receive clear instructions: what to avoid, how to care for the skin and when to get in touch with worrying symptoms. Ask whether you can contact the clinic after the visit and, for treatments that need it, whether a follow-up visit is planned.

Reviews and photos of results

Read reviews from several sources and pay attention to those that describe specific treatments and how the visit went. Before and after photos should show real effects, in similar lighting and without filters.

Questions worth asking

Take this list to the consultation:

  • Who will perform my treatment and how long have they been doing this procedure?
  • What device or preparation will it be performed with?
  • How many treatments are usually needed and when will I see the results?
  • How long does the effect last and are maintenance treatments needed?
  • What does the time after the treatment look like and what should I avoid?
  • What are the contraindications and side effects?
  • How much does it cost and what is included in the price?
  • Who can I contact after the visit?
