Lumecca: what it is, who it is for and what the treatment looks like

Lumecca is one of the treatments you ask us about most often when spots or redness appear on the skin. We explain how it works, who it can help and what to expect during the visit and afterwards.

What Lumecca is

Lumecca InMode is an advanced IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system, a treatment using pulsed light. It is not a laser: the device sends out intense pulses of light, which the skin feels as a brief wave of warmth.

The light is absorbed by pigment and tiny vessels, which is why Lumecca helps with pigmentation and vascular changes. At the same time it improves the overall condition of the skin: it evens out the skin tone, brightens the complexion and improves its structure.

How it works

Pigmented lesions absorb the light energy and break down. After the treatment the pigmentation first darkens and becomes more visible, and after a few days it flakes finely and falls off. This is a normal reaction, so you should not pick at it.

With spider veins the light makes the tiny vessels close or become less visible, and redness fades.

Who the treatment is for

Lumecca works well when the problem is:

  • sun-induced and lentigo-type pigmentation
  • acne marks and minor post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • dilated spider veins and redness
  • a tired, uneven complexion
  • pigmentation on the hands and décolleté
  • symptoms of rosacea

Which treatment will be best is assessed by the specialist during the consultation. New spots, quickly growing ones or ones that change colour should first be seen by a dermatologist.

Who should not have the treatment

We do not perform the treatment, among other cases, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with a fresh tan (including after a solarium), with photosensitising medicines and preparations, with active infections and skin inflammation in the treatment area, with a tendency to keloids and with photosensitive epilepsy. You will find the full list of contraindications on the treatment page, and we make the final decision after the interview during the consultation.

How to prepare

Avoid the sun for at least 2 weeks before the treatment. The skin must not be freshly tanned, and during these weeks it is worth using SPF. Do not take antibiotics for at least a week before the treatment. If you take any medication, tell us at registration and at the consultation.

What the treatment looks like

The treatment takes up to 40 minutes. We perform it on the face, neck, décolleté and hands. We protect the eyes with special glasses and apply a gel to the skin, over which the device moves while emitting pulses of light. Most often a series of 3-5 treatments is needed, and we choose the number according to the severity of the changes.

After the treatment

Right after the treatment the skin may be red and warm. Within 1-2 days the pigmentation darkens, and within 7-14 days it flakes off and falls away. Do not pick at it, and use SPF 50 and gentle skincare. The recovery period is short, so you return to your daily activities straight away.

When you see the results and how long they last

The first effects are visible after 1-2 weeks, when the pigmentation falls off, and the full effect after about 3 weeks. The result lasts from 6 months. The best way to extend it is daily SPF, because the sun is the most common reason for spots coming back.

Frequently asked questions

Most people describe a brief feeling of warmth with each pulse. We adjust the settings to the sensitivity of the skin, and you can tell us about anything you feel during the treatment.

Before the treatment you need to avoid the sun for at least 2 weeks, and afterwards use SPF 50. That is why we usually plan the treatment outside the period of intense sun. We set the date at the consultation.

The price depends on the treatment area. You will find current prices in the price list on the website, and we will give you the exact cost after the consultation.
